THE HILL WALK

                                                        Approximate Length 8.5 kms

From the Anchor turn left along North Street and onto the Broads. As you pass the sewage works check the sewage beds as you are likely to see Pied or Grey Wagtails hunting insects on the beds. Carry on along the Broads past Klondyke Farm and Second Drove till you reach a hedge on your right

(2km)

Once you reach the hedge turn right onto the permissive path to the left of the hedge and ascend the hill to the woods at the top. At the edge of the woods you have fine views across the fens to Ely cathedral and Haddenham water tower to the north. The path forms a lazy S shape to pass through the woods to end up at another hedge descending the other side of the hill. Take the hedge side path down to Ness Road.

(1.2km)

Cross the road to a signed path on the other side and follow the path as it curves through the small woods. Once out of the woods take the green path to your right across the fields. After roughly 300m the path turns left by a wooden fence. Follow the path for about 100m to then turn right for 250m to follow a ditch on your right to a small wood. On reaching the woods the path turns left along a hedge for 220m to then turn right by a wooden fence. The path then heads for some woods 210m ahead of you. This woods is home to various wild life including deer, Woodpeckers and if you are lucky Little Owl. Keep to the path through the woods to the riverside. Turn left along the river bank (keep eyes open for Kingfishers) and follow the river for 570m to Ness Road again. Turn left along the hedge for 150m to a path through the hedge.

(2.05km)

Cross the road to take the road way to Tollgate and Ness farms to your right. Then take the farm track between the farms to gently rise across the fields for 400m to the junction with a track coming from your left. Turn left along the track for 600m to Broads Farm. At the farm take the road ahead for the 2.5km walk back along the Broads and North Street to return to the Anchor and a relaxing drink.
